Our processing solutions include mailroom management, document scanning, archiving and retrieval and combine on-shore, near-shore and off-shore facilities to deliver commercial and operational flexibility for our clients.
Our scanning and indexing platform is the core of our document processing capability. We scan and code documents with an assembly-line precision, processing in excess of forty million documents each year through our shared service centres for corporate and central government clients. We operate six shared service centres in the UK each linked to our Asian operations in addition to numerous client locations operating as a managed service. Our expertise in scanning and indexing is complemented by a range of additional services that support the full end to end processing of all types of documentation typical of the insurance and government sectors.
In addition to managing back office processes for our clients we also have considerable expertise in re-engineering processes to deliver improved business results, both in terms of operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Remittance Processing
GDS is the largest independent remittance processor in the UK. We process in excess of three hundred thousand cheque payments per day through our highly automated Unisys transports located at our Bolton, Widnes and Lancing service centres. Our scale and market leading infrastructure mean that GDS is the most efficient remittance processor in the UK.
The excellence of our service is underpinned by our recent multi-million pound investment in the very latest remittance processing equipment. We have full resilience at each site and full disaster recovery therefore workloads can be shifted very quickly in the event of unforeseen circumstances without affecting service levels. In addition our commitment to quality means that we operate to one error per three hundred and fifty thousand cheques and our sites are regularly audited by our clients to ensure that they continue to conform to the most stringent industry regulations.
Our high speed transports can process 850 documents per minute and we use Courtesy Amount Recognition to recognise hand written figures and Legal Amount Recognition to recognise words. We also use OCR readers and MICR readers to read key information from each cheque received. All payments are processed on the day they are received with our client's accounts being credited via the UK clearance system.
Our flexible portfolio means that we can tailor our processing services to meet the exact needs of our clients quickly and cost effectively. From low cost start ups to managing the largest scale processing operations, GDS has the right solution to meet any organisation's needs.
Key sectors served are financial services, consumer services, utilities, telecoms and the public sector and the strength of our relationship with major postal service providers enables us to negotiate excellent postal rates and best in class service delivery agreements.
Our comprehensive remittance processing service also includes the processing of foreign currency and non-standard payments and we are uniquely placed to manage mixed processing environments and to offer the broadest range of solutions, including:
- Payment processing
- Exception handling
- Correspondence handling
- Name and address change
- Returned cheques management
- Foreign cheques processing
Correspondence Handling
Our correspondence handling solution is a natural extension to our mail management and scanning and indexing services. Typically, we provide a blended solution with straightforward correspondence processed by our Asian operations and more complex queries handled by our specialists in the UK. By leveraging this flexible operational model we can balance cost efficiencies with service delivery to ensure adherence to customer charters and regulatory guidelines.
We provide an on-site managed service for several clients in the financial services and utility sectors. For example, we operate one of the UK's largest centralised mailroom operations for a major retail bank from our secure facility in Leicester. Centralised mailroom operations provide a unique opportunity to consolidate the various document processing activities into a single operation and provide the platform to move to electronic distribution and workflow.
GDS has a wealth of experience in managing mailrooms and services on behalf of its clients, such as Royal & Sun Alliance, AON Insurance, Barclays Bank, NHS Trusts, The Dental Practice Board, Readers Digest, Centrica, Barclaycard and Thomas Cook.
